OU-Texas weekend. Thanks to the generosity of Angela’s parents, we were able to get tickets. We didn’t get any from the season ticket holder lottery, so we weren’t expecting to get to go. Angela’s brother, however, had a soccer game that day, and, since it’s his senior year, Warren and Dawne decided that watching him play was more important that seeing the OU game, so they sold us their tickets.
Our seats were in the south end zone, the OU end, right by the player’s ramp. We were seats 3 and 4, so we had a great view of the ramp. We got to see the Sooners run out amidst cheers, as well as watch the crowd jeer the Longhorns out on to the field. That stadium was loud, as I’m sure all Red River Shooutout alumni know well. Win or lose, we had made up our minds that it was a great game, and we were ecstatic to be there. Winning sure helped, though.
Warren and Dawne, who got ticket stubs off disappointed Longhorn fans who were leaving early, joined us in the stands with just a few minutes left in the game. After the contest had been decided, the OU flag planted (again) at midfield, and the teams had filed off the field, we left stands to the sounds of The Pride. Outside the stadium, we toured the buildings, and ate some of the much vaunted (and deservedly so) fair food. On our way out, we watched a little bit of Trisha Yearwood’s concert on the Main Stage.
On the way home, we stopped, as all good Christmas shoppers should, if they have the chance, at the outlet malls in Gainesville, TX. We didn’t spend much time there, though, since the introduction of Kohl’s stores in the OKC area gave us outlet mall prices without the two hour drive. And our legs were killing us. 🙂
