The Power of Coupons

I’ve always known that using coupons is a great way to save money, but lately finding time to even go to the grocery store has been a chore. Up until about a month ago, I couldn’t even imagine having the time to clip coupons, research prices, and then drive all over town in order to save a few bucks. Then some of my friends turned me on to these “coupon blogs” where the authors literally do all the legwork for you. They match up the weekly ads with current coupons (from the newspaper or online) and tell you what can get for cheap or even free! Some of the blogs I have started following are Consumer Queen, Simple Saving Saavy, and Money Saving Queen. Last week I followed their advice and took my coupons to Homeland (where they double coupons up to $1.00) and got everything pictured below for just over $8.00!

That’s 2 dozen eggs, 2 pounds of sausage, 2 packets of chili seasoning, 1.5 pounds of stew meat, 4 cans of Pillsbury Grands Biscuites, 3 packages of corn muffin mix, 1 package of American cheese and 2 pie crusts!

A lot of the blogs, including website of yahoo finance that I’ve started reading talk about stockpiling and about how you can really save money if you don’t shop for what you need to make a certain meal, but plan your meals based on what you can buy with coupons.  It’s definitely a shift in thinking, but it really makes sense.  I just can’t wait to use all this money that I’ve been saving for a really fancy trip or a new TV for our bedroom!  Then the power of coupons will really hit home!  🙂
